Call for Submissions
Essential Collective Theatre is currently accepting script submissions from Niagara & Hamilton based playwrights for our 6th annual Wine & Reading event taking place at 13th Street Winery May 5, 2012!
How does it work?
If your play is selected you’ll be paired up with an experienced dramaturge and a cast of professional actors who will workshop your play over a two day period. Your cast will then rehearse selections of your play to read in front of our audience at the Wine & Reading event. Afterwards you’ll be invited to participate in a brief question and answer period with the audience.
If you’re play is selected you’ll receive an honorarium of $100.  ECT will cover all other production expenses. Playwrights of all experience levels are encouraged to submit.
How are the plays selected?
Ideally we’re looking for new works that have yet to be workshopped or produced. Artistic Director Stephanie Jones and Artistic Producer Jason Cadieux will read all submissions. We’ll be asking ourselves if the playwright…

• Has taken a risk by telling their story?
• Created roles actors will want to play?
• Wants to challenge themselves and their audience?

 

Ultimately the best fit is the play (and playwright) that will get the most out of this type of experience. We want to help you get a handle on your play and take it to the next level.
Do the plays have to be about or set in Niagara?

• No. The only requirement is that the playwright be based somewhere in Niagara or the surrounding regions (Hamilton Submissions encouraged!).

What do I submit?

• Please include a cover letter telling us a little bit about yourself and the play’s history, a brief synopsis and of course a draft of the play. Be sure to include your contact information.
